Indoor Cricket New Zealand Awards: Kerr, Chatfield inducted into Hall of Fame
The pair joined Warwick Simmons as Hall of Fame inductees. There were additional recipients into ICNZ's 50-test and 100-test clubs, whilst Division Most Valuable Players were also named at the Senior Provincial Championship presentations.

Robbie Kerr and Vanessa Chatfield were inducted into the Indoor Cricket New Zealand (ICNZ) Hall of Fame this past weekend, at the presentations for the Senior Provincial Championships in Wellington.
The Hall of Fame initiative was started in 2023, with the first recipient being long-time administrator Warwick Simmons.
Kerr’s mark on the game is one for the history books - he was part of the New Zealand side that played the first ever international test match (and series) against Australia back in 1985. Cap number six for the Kiwis, and an exceptional wicketkeeper, he went on to captain the team to their first ever test series win, also against Australia, in 1989. He played 28 times for the Men’s side, which included two World Cups in 1995 and 1998.
He picked up coaching shortly after, overseeing the Men’s team in 2001 and at the 2002 World Cup in Wellington, as well as the Women’s sides in 2014 and 2015. He appeared for Masters teams as well, at the 2016 and 2024 Masters World Series events.
Kerr’s impact on the game at an administrative level has been immense, as he has spent decades coaching and developing junior and women’s players, especially in the Wellington region where he resides.
Chatfield was capped eight times for the Women’s team in 2000 and 2002-03, as well as 13 times at Masters level, in 2008 and 2010. 2008 was a crowning achievement for Chatfield when she led the Over-30 Women to a Masters World Series title.
After her playing time, she also managed a number of teams between 2012-17. Like Kerr, her impact on the game goes well beyond her national and international honours. Alongside Kerr, she has had a significant influence on the development of younger players, managing junior cricket for three decades in the Wellington region.
50 test matches - Open Men’s level
Victor Davies and Stacy Hyndman, who both reached 50 caps for the Men’s side in 2023 and 2024 respectively, were issued with their 50-test caps at the presentations.
Davies has been a regular member of the side since making his debut in 2014 and has played in three World Cups, leading the side in the latter two, most recently at the 2022 tournament . Widely regarded as one of the best batters around the international scene, he currently sits at 57 tests, and is likely to go past current Men’s coach Leigh Kelly’s 58 tests during the upcoming World Cup, to become New Zealand’s highest capped Men’s player.
Hyndman debuted in 2009 and has gone on to play 53 tests to date for the Men’s side. An excellent all-round player, as well as wicketkeeper, Hyndman has been a regular and consistent presence in New Zealand sides between 2009-14 and again from 2019-24. He will be playing in his fifth World Cup this year.
They join Kelly and Bryce Fellows as players to reach the 50-test mark, as well as Paul Botterill (50 tests as coach).
50-test and 100-test caps (all divisions)
ICNZ introduced the handing out of caps to past and present players a few years ago, to provide recognition of those who have represented New Zealand in indoor cricket and the service they have given to the game.
One test cap is earned based on representing the country in a match at any international level (juniors, opens, masters) as either a player, coach, manager, or other team member. Due to the dearth of international fixtures on a yearly basis in indoor cricket, achieving 50 caps in one division itself is a rare achievement.
50-test recipients this year were former test player David Russell, and current Under-22 Men’s coach Daniel Batley.
The 100-test recipient this year was Paul Anderson, current coach of the Men’s Under-22 and Over-35 sides. Anderson’s coaching resume is impressive, having won two Masters World Series titles in 2013 (Over-30 Men) and 2019 (Over-35 Men), as well as a World Cup title in 2022 with the Under-22 Men.
The 50-test milestone has now been attained by 30 individuals, whilst the 100-test milestone is a rare achievement, with only three recipients thus far, including Kelly.
