Cup Grand Final: Australia vs New Zealand
In the Open Men's Division, New Zealand broke the hearts of the home town crowd, with an outstanding effort in the field driving them to a 58-23 win over Sri Lanka. The New Zealanders were in trouble batting first, reduced to just 25 in the first 12 overs, as wild support from the locals drove the Sri Lankans to execute the majority of plays from tight bowling.
But 33 crucial runs under pressure from Mitch Gardner and Ryan Jackson in the final pair got the Kiwis up to 58 and a total to bowl at.
Shewon Fonseka and Chandima Abeykoon laid the platform for the hosts, with 25 on the board, leaving just 34 needed from 72 balls. However, the match turned completely thereafter, with the Kiwis piling on the pressure, which the home side were just not able to absorb. It resulted in -2 runs coming from the last 12 overs, and an emphatic statement from New Zealand to enter into another Grand Final against their rivals.
